NUR ASHYKEEN BINTI

I'm Nur Ashykeen, I have graduated from University of Colorado Boulder with B.A in Biochemistry. During my time there, I did various of part-time work including being a customer service associate and also as a Undergraduate Teaching Assistant (UTA)/ Undergraduate Learning Assistant (ULA). Being a UTA and ULA, I have assisted the faculty by facilitating a small group of students to mentor them in General Biology for college (freshman and sophomore year students). I enjoy doing outdoor activities and I could spend most of my leisure time reading articles on new invention in molecular biology. My main objective in becoming a tutor is to assist and help the students understand their learning materials, I don't want them wasting their time to only remember things just for the sake of passing the exam. Yes, passing the exam with flying colors is one of the goals, but the most important thing is to get them understand the lessons by heart. Only then they will enjoy to learn and aware the knowledge that they get. First, I'll focus on the students' progress in their previous school assessments (to see how they have been doing so far in the specific subject), so that I could come out with effective plan to assess, assist and encourage them in the learning processes. Next, I will hold weekly tutoring sessions and provide assistance for students in their preparations for exam and in the completion of homework assignments. I will ask the students on a weekly basis to get updates on upcoming course topics and exams, so that I could focus more to make them understand those topics. Being a UTA and ULA, I have assisted the faculty by facilitating a small group of students to mentor them in General Biology for college (freshman and sophomore year students). Given the materials that are used during lecture, my tasks are mostly focused on how to prepare the students for the quizzes, homework, and tests, to monitor their progress in each assessment, and to report to the lecturers/professors the students' progress, so that they can prepare a better way to teach the students. Plus, the faculty has given me a scheduled office hours time to help the students understand better the materials taught in the class. Many students of that class have attended my office hours to have me explaining more in depths about the lectures, so that they could keep up with the learning progress.
