My name is Amrit. I was born and raised in Kuching, Sarawak. Before planning for a lesson, I will first study the proficiency level of my students. Usually this is done by doing a little exercise which covers all the 4 skills which are speaking. listening, reading and writing skills. Once I have studied the proficiency level of my student, I will try to come up with such a lesson where the students could catch up and master the skills along side with the syllabus that needs to be covered by the students. Besides matching the right activities according to the proficiency level of the students, I also engage the students by creating various types of activities related to the topic. Apart from that, along side with the education plan, the lessons now should be compatible with the 21st first century therefore, I also use a lot of application such as Kahoot, Quizziz, Socrative and so on to engage the students into the lesson. I personally believe that when our lessons are interesting and students are able to focus and learn from it, students will definitely look forward for the next lesson as they are eager to learn and acquire more.
I had a few teaching experiences while I was pursuing my degree. I did my practical in a local secondary school in Ipoh, Perak for 4 months. Here, I was given the chance to teach the form 1 and 2 classes. It was quite challenging however, I managed to help a few students to improve in just a short period of time.

I’m working in a Montessori based preschool in which most of the lesson are using the apparatus; I used to be against the Montessori method as a person who grew up with the old school style of learning. So, as I implement the Montessori method, it made me unconsciously observe the teaching technique that works the best for my student. What I discovered is there are pros and cons in using the apparatus; one of the pro is the apparatus are able to enhance or strengthen the student’s understanding on the lesson and make the lesson more interesting especially for young student. Meanwhile, the con is the student will rely a lot on the apparatus. I’m not trying to say that this method is the best method in teaching. I believe that in teaching, there will always be try and error. Some teaching techniques might effectively work on some student and some might not. But, it does made me realized, some students especially this generation, they need something for them to visualize other than endless explaining from the teacher. So, my lesson is the combination of old school style of learning and using the teaching aids that I come out on my own. I think studying should be fun for student to grow interest in learning other than stressing them all the times. My journey as a teacher starts on 2011 where I worked in a local preschool for 8 months. I was designated as a homeroom teacher for 5 to 6 years old children. My first working experience is a bit intense as I need to designed and prepared worksheets and exercise books on my own which it made me learn a lot from it. End of August 2011, I resigned my job to further my Degree; to full fill the requirement for Degree, I did my 6 months training in a local preschool and also the government school on 2014 and 2015. Even it just for a short period of time, I managed to observe the differences in teaching style of both institution. I decided to start my career back in 2017 in one of international preschool brand under Busy Bees Asia. This is where I realized that I have talent in teaching little humans.

Research has shown that if students do not consider a learning activity worthy of their time and effort, they might not engage in a satisfactory way, or may even disengage entirely in response. To ensure that activities are personally meaningful, we can, for example, connect them with students’ previous knowledge and experiences, highlighting the value of an assigned activity in personally relevant ways.Putting FUN in studies. There is always room for some excitement and fun in education. So, I always try to put some playful aspect here and there during the lessons. Lessons are largely planned after a careful assessment of the students understanding on the subject matter. Based on their level of understanding, lesson will be planned to build on that. For example, a 12 year old student can be given a few test papers to examine their understanding on English for reading comprehension, sentence/essay construction, grammar, vocabulary and all other aspects based on students school syllabus. Depending on their performance lesson can be planned to improve their understanding and knowledge. Following assessment, we also need to identify the type of learner for a student, ie,auditory learner, visual learner, reader or writer, kinesthetic learner. Lessons should be planned to benefit the students learning type for maximum results. Students also tend to learn well when some games or play is incorporated into lessons. This could range from some fun word games, guessing games and many more.

I’m Nur Ashykeen, I have graduated from University of Colorado Boulder with B.A in Biochemistry. Being a UTA and ULA, I have assisted the faculty by facilitating a small group of students to mentor them in General Biology for college (freshman and sophomore year students). I enjoy doing outdoor activities and I could spend most of my leisure time reading articles on new invention in molecular biology.
My main objective in becoming a tutor is to assist and help the students understand their learning materials, I don’t want them wasting their time to only remember things just for the sake of passing the exam. Yes, passing the exam with flying colors is one of the goals, but the most important thing is to get them understand the lessons by heart. Only then they will enjoy to learn and aware the knowledge that they get. First, I’ll focus on the students’ progress in their previous school assessments (to see how they have been doing so far in the specific subject), so that I could come out with effective plan to assess, assist and encourage them in the learning processes. Next, I will hold weekly tutoring sessions and provide assistance for students in their preparations for exam and in the completion of homework assignments. I will ask the students on a weekly basis to get updates on upcoming course topics and exams, so that I could focus more to make them understand those topics.
Being a UTA and ULA, I have assisted the faculty by facilitating a small group of students to mentor them in General Biology for college (freshman and sophomore year students). Given the materials that are used during lecture, my tasks are mostly focused on how to prepare the students for the quizzes, homework, and tests, to monitor their progress in each assessment, and to report to the lecturers/professors the students’ progress, so that they can prepare a better way to teach the students. Plus, the faculty has given me a scheduled office hours time to help the students understand better the materials taught in the class. Many students of that class have attended my office hours to have me explaining more in depths about the lectures, so that they could keep up with the learning progress.

We need to make student felt in love with the subject we need to teach. For example, while we need to teach them basic of geology, the first thing we need to related geology with the daily life and why this subject important to learn. What the advantages to student if the got expert from this subject. When we already change the mind set, it will easier to student catch up which the syllabus because they have willing to learn by their own.

As an English tutor, my responsibilities were to guide all year 3, 5, 6 SJK (C) students in improving their English language in terms of grammar, comprehension, as well as writing. The students are given their exercise books, but I took the initiative to provide them with other worksheets and materials too in order to engage with the students and make the class more interesting. I was required to provide a daily report after each session in order to keep track of the students’ progress and improvement. In addition to that, I was also involved in the student’s monthly report and evaluation where I evaluated the students’ progress individually to be presented to the parents as their references. Apart from that, I also guided them with their homework, especially related to their Bahasa Malaysia subject.
Working as a tutor has helped me improve my creative and critical thinking skills as well as problem-solving skills. I have developed and built the micro-teaching explanation skills. Furthermore, I have also learned and mastered the art of controlling and managing the classroom. Since the students are from SJK(C), I have learned a few mandarin words from them which might be useful in the future.
